Palafox Pier in downtown Pensacola, FL is home to a private marina that locals and tourists frequent to experience the waterfront and explore nearby Plaza de Luna, a city park overlooking Pensacola Bay. The entrance to Palafox Pier features one of the city’s iconic pelican statues surrounded by a cluster of small palm trees. Plaza de Luna, which opened in 2007, features a statue of the city’s founder, Tristán de Luna y Arellano, a Spanish explorer whose 1559 expedition near Pensacola established America’s first European settlement. In addition to a fountain courtyard at the northern entrance where children can play in interactive water jets, Plaza de Luna includes an 1,800-foot promenade for strolling and fishing, an amphitheater for performances, and a terrace for sunset viewing of beautiful Pensacola Bay.
